Disabling the Stigma of Hiring People with Special Needs

According to the statistics done in 2015 there are about 40 million people living in America who have disability and it comprises more than 12% of the non-institutionalized civilian populace.

One of the major problems disabled people face in their everyday life is that they earn lesser than those without disability and their unemployment rate is twice than them.

There are various reasons why some employers in the past years did not employ those who had disabilities. There was an existing stigma in the society that people with special needs didn’t have the capacity to work like the normal employees did.

There are already laws that giving more rights to people with special needs and many groups are now fighting for the rights of our fellow human beings who have special needs but can also work equally with us. Although this stigma still exists in some other places, there are more and more states and even countries that already are giving equal opportunity for employment to disabled people.

Admittedly, fully disabling this stigma may take longer than advocates expected it to be but if all of us are aware of the many advantages of employing people like them, we can contribute in helping fulfill this vision in a short span of time.

Here are some 2 great benefits of employing people with special needs:

Attitude towards crisis and having a creative mind to solve it

People with special needs have very creative minds in problem-solving and their attitude to handle crisis are very impressive. Their way to solve issues can contribute to the company’s well-being and bring profit as well.

Enormous amount of dedication at work

Given the chance to work in an accessible and work-friendly environment, they can show their capabilities. They result in accomplishing greater things beyond what they previously thought they could achieve. Just like with normal employees, they are a huge asset to the company.

There are now various companies that hire people with special needs. The stigma is not that strong anymore and we just have to continue disabling it until the time comes when all of us are able to have access to equal opportunities.
